Pictures That Kill: a 40-year retrospective of Charles Gatewood

3rd October to 24th October 2008 -- London EC2

À Rebours have put together an outstanding programme of events to support the exhibition, working closely with performance company Switch.

 

Thursday 2nd October

6.30pm to 9.30pm: Private view with live interventions

A first chance to see the exhibition, with live interventions created by performance company Switch in collaboration with Emma Leach & Natasha Vicars, Katie O'Brien and Alex Watson.

 

Arrive early and join us for a drink to celebrate the launch of Pictures That Kill. This event is free - to attend please RSVP

 

 

Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th October

Gatewood and Switch appear at London Fetish Weekend, a series of events across London.

 

5.30 - 6.15pm: Illustrated talk at The Xpo

At the Xpo Gatewood talks about his work, providing witty and insightful glimpses into the worlds he has documented during his 40-year career.

 

The Xpo is an annual exhibition in London showcasing the very best of designer leather & latex, club couture, unique corsetry, beautiful burlesque, elegant lingerie, funky accessories and sensual art. Xpo is part of London Fetish Weekend.

Midnight - 3am: "Canvas" - performed installation at Torture Garden

Performance company Switch create an interactive installation where a naked woman becomes a living canvas for a series of Gatewood's more fetishistic images. Canvas will take place in the dungeon at Torture Garden between midnight and 3am on the morning of Sunday 5th October.

 

Torture Garden is the world's largest regular fetish and body art club. Over the last 20 years curator David Wood has presented some of the most exciting and edgy live art and performance in a club setting. Artists who've performed at TG include Franko B, Ron Athey, Fakir Musafar, Marisa Carnesky, Ryan Styles and Empress Stah.

Monday 6th October

2pm to 7pm: Photography Salon with Charles Gatewood

In a secret location in central London 9 models will dress, make-up and play for Gatewood's camera, supported by Bizarre regular Ashley and scene queen bobette. Images will be published subsequently.

 

 

Wednesday 8th October

7pm to 10.30pm: Performances That Kill

Performance company Switch take over Gallery32 for Performances That Kill - an one-off performance event in response to Charles Gatewood's photography. Commisioned by À Rebours as part of the Gatewood exhibition, it includes a new commission by Rachel Parry, and a collaboration between Ewelina Kolaczek and Mark Butcher.
